The following is a description of the martial arts that make up our curriculum.  The classes are designed so all skill levels can learn and benefit from the information.  All kids class curriculums are age appropriate and strengthen our kids physically, mentally and socially.

Core Curriculum

Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do is the collection of fighting techniques and philosophy taught by  Sifu Bruce Lee.  These teachings were passed to Sifu Dan Inosanto and ultimately to all of us.  Sifu Bruce was a pioneer of martial arts.  The concept of mixed martial arts that are so prevalent in todays martial arts society did not begin recently.  They merely gained popularity recently. Sifu Bruce was training martial arts the way we train now long before the UFC.  He urged constant learning and growth, and that is the path we try to follow.

Jeet Kune Do addresses all the ranges combat can occur (blunt/edged weapons, kicking, boxing, trapping/clinch and grappling); and the way that a fight can mutate in seconds, for example, going from empty hand, to against a weapon, to mass attack (many opponent fight), to the ground in a matter of seconds.

  Realistic experience with both the flow through the ranges of a fight and the mutations of a fight is essential.

KALI

A key component of the Filipino Martial Arts is the art of Kali.  Kali (“kamut lihok” – hand movement) is an extremely functional, weapons based fighting system.  From a lifetime of study, Guro Dan Inosanto created his blend of Kali ("La Coste-Inosanto Kali") that uses 12 main weapons types in training: stick, knife, long blade, double stick, double knife, double long blade, staff, palm stick, dos manos (two handed), flexible, espada & daga (long blade & dagger) and baston & daga (stick & dagger).  These weapons skills, developed from actual sparring and progressive drills in the largo (e.g. largo mano), medio (e.g. sumbrada) and corto (e.g. hubbud) weapons ranges, can be applied to any object found around a practitioner at any time.

Kali weapons training quickly builds critical fighting attributes that can be applied to empty hand combat faster than just empty hand training alone.

  Important fighting attributes include: Killer Instinct, Endurance, Footwork, Timing, Speed, Power, Accuracy, Strength, Flow, Explosiveness, Sensitivity, Flexibility, Balance, Coordination, Line Familiarization, Spatial Relationship, Broken Rhythm, Awareness, Focus, Pain Tolerance, Survival Instinct.

This class is made up of numerous different branches of Filipino Martial Arts, and has been influenced by such instructors as; Guro Dan Inosanto, Guro Ron Balicki, Guro Willie Laureano, and Guro Edgar Sulite to name a few.

Submission Wrestling

Our submission wrestling comes from Shooto, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Sambo, Catch, Freestyle, and Greco Roman Wrestling. We address stand up clinching, throws, take downs, ground positioning and submissions.  Whether your goal is self defense or competion you MUST have knowledge in these areas.  The information is taught clearly, scientifically, and with the goal of always being a step ahead.  Flow drills condition our minds to respond to different situations with the correct action.  These are not mystical techniques.  They are proven in competion and self defense scenarios.  It is a proven fact that often times fights and self defense situations end up on the ground, preparation for this scenario is a must.

 

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is known as "King of the Ring" in kickboxing circles.  These fights feature punches, kicks, elbows, knees, standing grappling and head-butts to wear down and knock out their opponent.  Thai training methods develop devastating power, speed and superb cardio-vascular endurance as well as fighting spirit.  Muay Thai  training as also quite safe thanks to sophisticated pad training that evolved to keep fighters healthy between fights.  Muay Thai has also proven very effective outside the ring and has been embraced enthusiastically by practitioners of a variety of self-defense, sporting, military and law enforcement activities.
